Cozy Home Performance uses the most effective products and materials in the home performance industry. Our primary insulation material, Cel-pak cellulose, is made in Belchertown, MA by National Fiber. It is made from yesterday’s Boston Globe and other regional newspapers.

Other materials we use such as closed-cell foam and polystyrene rigid foam board are less green in the manufacturing process, but are used conscientiously in ways that lower your energy bills and save CO2 emissions. We use energy intensive materials when we are fully confident that the resulting energy saved or health related improvements will offset the substantial embodied energy of the product.

National Fiber is the only insulation manufacturer in New England. We proudly use NF Cel-Pak cellulose insulation. It is a premium, all-borate cellulose insulation. It is made almost primarily from over-issue news, which is the highest quality newsprint available. The quality of this newsprint and the purity and effectiveness of National Fiber’s special, all-borate chemical formulation, carefully blended in state-of-the-art equipment, provide the optimum density for unsurpassed coverage and performance.

Spray Foam, closed cell, Class 1 Fire Retardant

We use Touch ‘n Seal closed cell spray foam. Closed cell spray foam has a high R-value (6.5/inch) and is an air, moisture, and vapor barrier. We use this fossil fuel based product in ways to enhance building performance. It is often used in crawlspaces, to limit dank, moist air from entering the living space. This product does not contain ozone depleting ingredients. Spray foam can be unpleasant to breath when it is installed. When it sets up, between 1-2 hours, there is no off-gassing or smells.
